At the Center for Sustainable Urbanism we pride ourselves on our ability to create tailored experiences that meet the needs and visions of everyone that comes to us in search of an opportunity to expand their knowledge, education, and cultural exposure by examining how architecture and sustainability can work with the environment to serve the needs of the people both day to day and over the centuries. Here are some past programs we have been proud to provide.
This New England school collaborated with CfSU on a 10-day excursion to Italy focusing on the issues facing Venice, specifically the threat of rising sea levels.
The Consorzio Venezia Nuova has been addressing this issue for more than a decade. This organization gave the students a presentation on the Moses Project, one which utilizes sea gates to rise up as needed to block rising seas thus protecting Venice from the Acqua Alta. A visit to the site of one of the gates was also organized via water taxi.
Students then compiled their take-aways into a PowerPoint presentation at the CfSU studio in Sant'Angelo. After returning to the States, they presented their final product to the Boston community.
This New England school collaborated with CfSU on a 4-day educational tour of Rome with a focus on the city's use and implementation of sustainability.
From Ancient Rome’s Colosseo, Foro Romano and Capitolino to the Renaissance Basilica of Saint Peter’s and the recycled Circus of Domitian, now Piazza Navona, the students were immersed in architectural time travel. They spent a day at Ostia Antica studying the city planning and noting the ancient artifacts.
As part of their cultural exposure we also spent an afternoon on the Mediterranean and enjoyed dinner at an Italian eatery known for its traditional Roman fare.
